question (id # 541)

I have a gap between my front teeth.  My dentist has said that I can just replace the two front teeth with veneers but I am worried that I might look like Bug's Bunny, sorry Bugs!?

Each person is unique, so you need to be sure that you want to change this in your appearance.  Generally speaking, people with a gap, have eyes that are wider apart and so, by changing the teeth, your eyes become more noticeable.

It is important to make these changes in the context of the face and it almost always involves more than the two front teeth to achieve good balance and aesthetic harmony.  Quite often, the teeth around the two front teeth will need adjustments as well.

Try and have it done in a mock-up in a dental laboratory or ask for it to be done in composite first and, if you like it, then have it done more permanently.  The extra cost will protect you and help you with your decision-making. Orthodontics, crowns, veneers and, in severe cases, implants can be used.
